  • Military Warriors Support Foundation: Honoring and Assisting Returning Disabled American Soldiers

On that fateful day of September 11th, 2001, many heroes emerged. Police, fire fighters and civilians, came together and began our fight against terrorism. Since that day, our military has carried on the fight for us overseas. Countless brave men and women have been injured, or made the ultimate sacrifice, while defending our freedom. Many Americans have shown their generosity in caring for these heroes. Some give their time as volunteers, some give their financial support. Several organizations have been created to assist these veterans.  One such organization is the Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF).

MWSF, founded by Lt. Gen Leroy Sisco, USA (Ret), provides assistance to injured veterans during their transition from military to civilian life. So far in 2010, through the Homes4WoundedWarriors Program, six mortgage-free homes have been awarded to wounded warriors and their families. In addition, through the CEOs4Heroes Program, in two short months, over 40 veterans have received job offers in career-potential positions.

MWSF anticipates awarding many more homes to our Wounded Warriors and looks to provide countless more employment opportunities to our Heroes, and you can help! Simply text the word HERO to 46786 and follow the directions to select your personal level of donation! It's as easy as that! If your company is interested in providing veterans with quality jobs, please e-mail CEOs4Heroes@MilitaryWarriors.org.

One company that has already stood up for our Heroes is Lucchese, Inc., with their CEO, Paul LaVoie. LaVoie has made it his goal to rally fellow companies to come together to raise $1,000,000. “These heroes have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Let's join together in welcoming them home and supporting them in their time of need” says LaVoie. The process to donate a home costs MWSF $10,000. “Reaching $1,000,000 in donations will change the lives of 75 - 100 families”, says Casey Kinser, MWSF Programs Director. LaVoie also serves as the “corporate leader” of the CEOs4Heroes (C4H) program. “The vision of this program is to establish a positive working relationship with our partner companies that are interested in hiring our Veterans. We hope to add new corporate partners that recognize the positive attributes these individuals can bring to their place of employment”, says C4H Program Coordinator, Andrea Dellinger.

In addition to the Military Warriors Support Foundation’s homes and employment programs, they also offer education assistance as well as provide recreational opportunities for the Warriors and their families. For more information on all of MWSF’s programs, or to see how you can get involved, visit their website at www.MilitaryWarriors.org.

“Although appreciated, supporting our troops is more than a bumper sticker.  As much as moral support, our troops need the type of practical assistance the Military Warriors Support Foundation will provide.”

    -          Ken Eakes, MWSF Executive Director

  • Live for Today – Learn for Tomorrow

By Jeffrey Cox, iStudySmart.com Military Educational Consultant

Liberty is the most precious of gifts. My generation never had to fight for this freedom, it was offered to us on a silver platter, by people who fought for it with their lives.  All throughout the United States, cemeteries remind us of the young men, and women who never made it home, and whose memory we now cherish.  My generation does not own this freedom; we are merely its custodians.

The fundamental right to education is a benefit of the freedom that was fought so dearly for.  As Americans, we recognize education as a critical building block for our future.  The immediate and long-term benefits and opportunities that a quality education offers are key to national development and to individual freedom.

Quality educational programs and opportunities are available for military personnel and their families through iStudySmart.com. Soldiers and their families can complete college credit and earn their degree.
